That's exactly what he was saying. Not too frequently though. Not too loud either. He was not addressing anyone in particular, as his eyes were not focused at all.
He felt shy about all this, about standing near the exit of a supermarket and repeating those words.
I felt awkward as I read his thoughts. His subconscious was hoping fervently that nobody would respond. How can he simply face the shame of accepting help from someone?
However the circumstances was such that he had to do what he was doing. "What has to be done, has to be done." That had been the only choice. I am dead certain that if he had had any other option he would have gone for it.
He had woken up to better days with better facilitities and was living very well. Then things started changing for him. It got bad. Then it worsened and gradually brought him to this state.
He probably has a family to care for, and so his desperation mounts by the day and he goes for the only option that's available to him. It is indeed a pity.
There are homeless people in every part of the world. Even in the United States and Canada. I have read many stories of how families are 'kicked out' of the premises they have been occupying due to their inablity to continue paying the monthly rent.
There is no guarantee that such a situation could not arise in someone's life. Changes happen and keep hapenning all the time.
Some changes could be favorable, while others could not be. Do we have control over all these? Maybe we do, maybe we don't. But who knows for certain?
Is there something that you and I can do to ease the burden of those unfortunate ones who suddenly find themselves in such situations. Well I suppose there are charity organizations that you can trust to which you can contribute.
If there are no such organizations accessible to you, it would be appropriate to, if you are inclined that way, and if you have time to spare, to form an organization and formulate a road-map to sort out issues pertaining to helping out such unfortunates.
